Chicana/Latina Studies: The Journal of Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social (MALCS) has moved to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). MALCS gives a warm welcome to incoming Editor, Sonya Alemán and Associate Editor, Lilliana P. Saldaña, and the colectiva at UT San Antonio. Sonya and Lilliana bring with them a wealth of experience in Chicana/Latina feminist scholarship and feminist editorial practices. Sonya is an expert on Latina/o communication studies, media studies, alternative media, and journalism pedagogy. Lilliana brings expertise on qualitative methodologies, Chicana/Latina cultural studies, decolonial and postcolonial theories, Chicana feminist thought, and Chicana/o education.
With Sonya and Lilliana’s editorial vision, the journal will continue to flourish intellectually, creatively, and artistically, and undergo further advancement and expansion. In their vision statement, Sonya and Lilliana affirmed their commitment to keeping the interdisciplinary praxis of the journal with a focus on social justice in the publication process. To this end, they have confirmed their support to Chicana/Latina feminist activist scholarship that links neighborhoods, schools, migrant fields, courts, jails, and homes and produce theoretical knowledge and social transformation.
We thank Dr. Josie Méndez-Negrete for advocating for this transition, and we extend our gratitude to former Dean Betty Merchant and Current Dean Margo Delli Carpini of the College of Education and Human Development for their leadership and support to Chicana/Latina Studies.
¡Bienvenidas Sonya y Lilliana!
